Deluxe Smiths 17 jewel Dennison Aquatite cased Bristol cars wristwatch. These are different to the Bristol engineering Siddeley engineering watches in that they are only engraved Bristol, as on the back of the famous car marque. This one is from 1956 and is fully overhauled. The case diameter is approx 33.2mm wide without the winding crown. 18mm lugs. 11.4mm depth. Full deluxe grade movement with polished escapement. Movement number has J/C prefix. Fitted with a new ZRC ref 733 leather strap in 18mm, signed on the buckle with the coronet logo nicely matching the one on the dial. Watch has a proper high quality rolled gold crown and is in superb used condition with Case number is 694724 and Dennison reference number is 12897. Movement number J/C 273725, pre-epsilon gilded finish. Comes with the original leather box, and the old leather strap with its monopol r.g. buckle. Keeps excellent time, probably as good as it was when it left the factory. Previous service history in the back I think says 1985. Textured dial is in better than usual condition without any discolouration in the textured areas. There are some slight knocks on the case edges but it is a solid gold case
Bristol cars are currently having a revival, making this particular engraving a more desirable one.
A superb investment grade example of British watchmaking from its best period: the mid fifties.
