Model A409 Everest pattern Smiths Deluxe. Thirteen A409's were supplied by Smiths to members of the famous Everest expedition. This particular watch has been adopted for use by Pakistan forces and carries the appropriate engraving on the back. This is the version with the gilt baton hands.
Excellent investment if you want the correct model that went up Everest. 33.5 mm Dennison Aquatite signed case. Th thickness is approximately 10.5mm. Excellent 12 ligne 15 jewel c series movement, with frosted gilt finish, balance with screws, flat hairspring, straight line one piece click and click spring. Cruciform dust-cap/movement shock-proofing ring. Chromed top steel screw in back. Fully serviced and keeps excellent time. Very worn original Dennison Aquatite pattern crown, left on the watch for authenticity. Movement number C148992. Case number 91363. Fitted with a new 18mm mid brown padded calf strap which is soft, vintage looking and parallel fit. Condition is about average for one of these models. Some plating still remains on the case.
I do not have the history of this watch as a colleague purchased it many years ago as part of a job lot and sold it to me subsequently. I did not record it as stock at the time as I added it to my small personal collection of Smiths.
The interesting thing about this watch is that it is an A409 from 1953.
