As I Say Elsewhere The 19 Jewel Movement Formed The Basis Of The Famous English 25 Jewel Self Winding Smiths Wristwatch. Fitted With A New Leather Strap In 17Mm. Please Note That Although Suited To Everyday Wear, This Is Not A Waterproof Watch. The Caliber 100 Is Designed With Ease Of Maintenance In Mind, And Tries To Improve The Weaker Areas Of The Caliber 400. The 400 Suffers From Broken Steel Parts Which Are Much Mire Refined Or Designed To Work Differently In The 100, The Conventional Circular Click As Opposed To The Jlc Designed One Piece Click And Spring Should Have Been A Major Improvement, But Smiths Put The Click Screw Under Excess Pressure By Doubling It's Use As A Bridge Screw, Out Of The Frying Pan..... The Other Parts Show Much Improvement Though The Centre Wheel Still Wears Prematurely In Spite Of An Extra Jewel Or Two. But It Still Suffers From An Overlong Exposed Pivot Which Gets Abused As Does That On The 27 Cs Or Astral. Constantly In Search Of A Means To Slim Down The Watches The 100 Was A Better Idea Than Using The 8 3/4 Ligne. With The Overall Design Of The 100 Mimicking A Swiss Wristwatch Movement More Closely Than A Pocket Watch, As In The 400 And Predecessors Smiths Injected A Much Needed Upgrade From About '58 On, And Clearly The Movement Required Less Hand Finishing To The Parts From The Overall Appearance Of The Dial Side.
